What 6374 and 6368 motor sizes actually mean

What motor sizes actually mean on an electric skateboard
When you are comparing electric skateboards, the spec sheet almost always lists a motor size somewhere. On Evolve boards you will see numbers like 6374 or 6368 appear alongside wattage figures. Most buyers skim past them. That is a reasonable instinct, because on their own those numbers do not tell you much. But understanding what they describe does change how you read a spec sheet, and it helps explain why two boards with identical wattage ratings can feel completely different underfoot.
The numbers refer to the physical dimensions of the brushless motor. The first two digits are the diameter in millimetres and the last two are the length. A 6374 motor is 63mm wide and 74mm long. A 6368 is the same diameter but 6mm shorter. That extra length in the 6374 is not a trivial detail. More internal volume means more copper windings, which means more torque capacity before the motor starts generating heat under load.
Torque is the number that actually matters on a hill
Wattage gets most of the attention in marketing copy, and it is a useful indicator of peak output. But wattage is a product of torque and speed combined. Two motors can share a peak wattage figure while producing very different amounts of low-end torque. That difference becomes obvious the moment you hit a steep climb or need to accelerate from a standing start with a loaded pack and 15 kilometres already in your legs.
The 6374 motors used in the Diablo series are 3,500W each, running in a dual configuration for 7,000W combined. The 6368 motors in the Fusion and Stoke X are 3,000W each. The wattage gap is real, but the bigger gap is in sustained torque output, particularly when the terrain gets demanding. A longer motor maintains torque more consistently under load because it sheds heat more effectively. On a short flat section, both setups feel fast. On a 45 per cent grade in the Gold Coast hinterland or a long climb through inner Melbourne, the difference is measurable.
Why diameter is mostly fixed across the lineup
All current Evolve motors share the 63mm diameter. That is not a coincidence. The 63mm form factor is an established standard in high-performance electric skateboard motors. It gives the right balance of torque density, heat dissipation surface area and physical fit within the truck and drive assembly. Going larger would require a fundamentally different truck design. Going smaller would limit torque capacity in ways that matter for a performance product.
So when you see 6374 versus 6368, you are not comparing a bigger motor against a smaller one in any meaningful visual sense. You are comparing two motors that look nearly identical but have a meaningful internal volume difference. That internal volume is where the extra torque lives.
What this means in practice on all terrain
The Diablo Bamboo All Terrain runs 175mm pneumatic tyres. Pneumatic tyres create significantly more rolling resistance than urethane street wheels, and they draw more current from the motors to maintain speed and push through soft or uneven ground. The higher the rolling resistance, the more torque load the motors carry for any given speed. This is exactly where 6374 motors earn their place in the spec sheet.
On a sealed path around Centennial Park in Sydney or along the Brisbane River, the difference between a 6368 and 6374 motor setup is subtle. But take the same board onto dirt trails around the Dandenong Ranges or through the gravel paths that run behind the dunes in Perth, and the sustained torque capacity starts to matter. The Diablo does not hesitate on loose or soft ground. It does not bog under load when you are carrying speed into an ascent. That composure comes directly from having the torque headroom to handle spikes in demand without the motors working at their thermal ceiling.
The Diablo Bamboo All Terrain also runs the 864Wh Samsung 50S battery, which matters here for a different reason. A large battery holds voltage more consistently under heavy load. When the motors are drawing hard current through a steep climb or a sustained off-road run, a higher capacity battery maintains that voltage better than a smaller pack would. The result is consistent motor performance rather than a gradual drop in responsiveness as the battery sags. Up to 50 kilometres of real-world range on all-terrain tyres, and a hill gradient rating above 45 per cent, are both dependent on that combination of motor size and battery capacity working together.
Matching motor size to what you actually ride
The honest answer to which motor size is right for you is almost entirely about terrain and body weight. If you are predominantly on smooth sealed surfaces and your heaviest sessions are flat commutes or park laps, the 6368 motors in the Fusion are genuinely capable and the weight saving is worth something. At 12.5 kg, the Fusion is noticeably easier to carry, and 6368 motors produce plenty of torque for that kind of riding.
If you weigh more than 90 kg, ride regularly on mixed or rough terrain, or you find yourself on hills that would make a cyclist think twice, then the 6374 motors in the Diablo are doing real work that the smaller motors would struggle with over time. The Diablo Bamboo All Terrain carries a 120 kg rider limit and a 45 per cent gradient rating. Those numbers are credible because the motors and battery behind them are built for sustained demand, not optimistic peak figures.
Weight also compounds the torque demand in a way that catches people out. A 95 kg rider pushing up a 20 per cent grade on 175mm pneumatic tyres is asking considerably more of the drivetrain than the same rider on street wheels at 15 per cent. The 6374 motors handle that compounding demand with room to spare. The 6368 motors would handle it, but with less margin, and over time reduced margin shows up in heat management and belt longevity.
One number that tells you more than it looks like it should
Six millimetres is a small physical difference. In the context of a motor that is already producing serious torque, those six millimetres represent a meaningful increase in copper windings, thermal mass and sustained output capacity. It is not the difference between a capable board and an incapable one. It is the difference between a board that rides at its limit on demanding terrain and one that has headroom left in reserve.
If you are weighing up which board genuinely suits the terrain you actually ride, rather than the terrain you think you will mostly ride, that distinction is worth sitting with. Most riders who buy the Diablo for all-terrain use are not doing it because the spec sheet impressed them. They are doing it because they rode both and noticed what headroom feels like.
For all-terrain riding in Australia, with the variety of surfaces that come with it from the sealed coastal paths of the Gold Coast to the rougher tracks outside of Brisbane or Melbourne, the 6374 setup in the Diablo is the one that suits the full range of what you might encounter. It is not overkill. It is right-sized for the job.
